I think when people see something they disagree with, that goes against their deeply held beliefs, they should stop and take a breath before reacting.
As an example, I was constantly surprised by the lefts analysis of why VP Harris lost. It was racism, misogyny, fascism. They refused to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe......she was a bad choice and they didn't like her, her politics, her anointment, or lack of intelligence (anybody running for office from an unpopular administration that gets asked if there was anything they would do different and answers I can't think of anything, is not very intelligent).
Same with the Trans issue. People can believe there are only 2 sexes and still have compassion for someone who believes they were born the wrong sex. I heart aches for them and having that problem. It's only when the trans community tries to force others to believe this that problems start. I believe any adult should be able to do whatever they want, as long as it isn't hurting me.
Not all people that disagree with the other side of any issue, are coming from a bad place.
I hope people will just take a breath and think, other than negative (fill in the blank), it just maybe be something else.
I generally don't participate in online discussions or social media for other than technical or very specific topics. But I want to add a small note here and comment on a single line of your piece.
"I’m heartbroken that his identity is something to be argued about politically and that people campaign hate against him and others in his community."
Of course, campaigns of hate are nasty, but I'm not at all sure that is at the core of what is happening here.
Thank you for your love.
